If you currently have a HealthPartners UnityPoint Health Medicare plan, your coverage will expire after Dec. 31, 2024. You can continue to use your insurance as usual through the end of 2024. There’s no impact to your 2024 benefits, or where or how your insurance is accepted. You’ll also get a letter in the mail in early October with more details about the end of your coverage and resources for finding 2025 coverage.
Here are some important things to keep in mind as 2025 approaches:
- Details about 2025 private Medicare plans are available starting Oct. 1, 2024.
- You can enroll in a 2025 private Medicare plan starting Oct. 15, 2024.
- You have until Feb. 28, 2025, to enroll in a 2025 private Medicare plan because you’re eligible for a
special enrollment period (SEP) .- If you enroll in a 2025 plan during 2024, your plan will be effective Jan. 1, 2025.
- If you enroll in a 2025 plan during 2025, your plan will be effective the first of the month after you enroll. You may want to consider enrolling by Dec. 31, 2024, so you don’t experience a gap in your private Medicare coverage, including your Part D prescription drug coverage.
- If you want to enroll in a 2025 Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan, you have
guaranteed issue rights . Medicare Supplement plans don’t include Part D prescription drug coverage – if you enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan, you’ll also need to enroll in a separate Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) if you want to keep this coverage. - If you don’t enroll in a 2025 private Medicare plan by Dec. 31, 2024, your coverage will automatically go back to
Original Medicare . Your Part D prescription drug coverage will also end. - If you still don’t enroll in a 2025 private Medicare plan by Feb. 28, 2025, you’ll have to wait for your next enrollment period to change from Original Medicare or add Part D prescription drug coverage.
